Boston Pride Parade 2013

On Saturday June 8, 2013, the Intergalactic Alliance organization (IA) hosted science fiction affiliated costumers to march in the Boston LGBT Pride Parade. Members of the 501st who marched were critical to Intergalactic Alliance's successful first appearance at the parade. There was enthusiastic, remarkably friendly response from the parade attendees, and lots of fun for all involved. The IA is especially grateful to all 501st members that supported the event. Davira "Divvy," Sean and Krista, founded the Intergalactic Alliance as a means for different genres of costumers to march in unity at social and charitable events. Giving opportunity for fellow costumers to experience this parade was important to Divvy and Krista. As Divvy stated, "I truly believe that if people can put aside whatever preconceived notion of what Gay Pride is, they would certainly have an amazing and eye opening experience."

NOLA Pride Parade 2015, New Orleans, LA
From New Orleans Pride:

New Orleans Pride's objectives are to create an atmosphere in the Gulf Coast Region, where everyone can feel comfortable, safe and respected. We are using public awareness and education about the LGBT community as a way to combat “phobias” and discrimination. These programs, seminars, and events leading up to, and during Pride weekend, are meant to include individuals from all walks of life.

New Orleans Pride proudly presents the 2015 Pride Festival and Parade for the public as educational and entertainment events that are centered around the LGBT Community of New Orleans and its allies. New Orleans Pride raises money for two reasons. First, funds are raised for education in the community.  New Orleans Pride focuses on Anti-Bullying and Anti- Discrimination in the school systems, as well as other LGBT issues. Second, funds are raised to put on the Pride Weekend Festival for the LGBT Community of New Orleans.

Boston Pride Parade 2014
From Boston Pride Committee:

Boston Pride is the largest of New England’s annual Pride celebrations and one of the largest in the United States. This year will mark the 44th anniversary of the Boston Pride Parade, the second longest running LGBTQ parade next to New York.

“We celebrate the LGBT community, but we are also inclusive of the community at large and embrace the support everyone has given us over the years,” said Sylvain Bruni, Boston Pride’s new president.

With the celebration kicking off June 6 and

running through June 15, the theme for

Boston Pride 2014 is

Be Yourself, Change the World.”

“The theme encourages the LGBT community to embrace what makes each individual unique and to use those qualities to change the world for the better,” Bruni said.

Bruni shared several differences to this year’s festivities, including that the parade will start an hour earlier than in past years, beginning at 11 a.m. on June 14, due to the ongoing construction at the Government Center MBTA station at City Hall Plaza, where the festival will take place.

Other events include the Flag Raising ceremony June 6, Pride Day @ Faneuil Hall, Pride Queeraoke, Pride Night at Fenway Park, the Pride Youth Dance, the LGBT Senior Pride Tea Dance, the Boston Dyke March, the Back Bay Block Party and the JP Block Party. For a full schedule, visit www.bostonpride.com.

Give Kids The World Mini-Golf Event 2013

On June 30, 2013, members added festive flair to a mini golf benefit in Lunenburg, MA. This benefit was one of a series, organized by local members the DIS Unplugged; a weekly podcast that focuses on issues surrounding Disney and other Orlando area parks. Nationwide these fundraisers support, "Give Kids the World Village," a nonprofit resort in Kissimmee, Florida where children with life-threatening illnesses and their families are treated to weeklong, cost-free vacations. The Emperor, Count Dooku, Clone Commander Thorn and an Imperial Gunner surprised the attendees by their arrival at the minigolf course. The Stormtrooper and Tusken Raider had a little extra fun by adding Disney items to their costume such as TK helmet Goofy ears, a whimsical Gaffi stick and Mickey Safari hat on the Tusken Raider. It was an extremely convivial event for all ages. Congrats to the IA for this first time, very successful mission at the New England DIS Meet for Give Kids the World!
